Hi Everybody...welcome to our web chat: Exclusive Investigation into Jimmy Haslam-Inside the FBI Investigation
Good evening! We look forward to learning your thoughts and answering your questions on our investigative special!
Hi Linda...Jimmy Haslam has consistenly denied any knowledge of wrongdoing and has always been described as a man of intergrity.
Right now, the FBI is going over those secret tape recordings to determine who knew what!
By the way, another trucking company just filed another lawsuit today--making 26 trucking companies suing Haslam and the FBI.
Hard to say...lawyers for trucking companies predict more, but that is not suprising coming from them. Yet even Pilot Flying J attorneys last April predicted "trucking companies will come out of the woodwork" to sue.
Goodell also wouldn't give us details about his conversations with Haslam, but said Haslam has been in close contact with the NFL since the raid in April.
Pilot, by the way, has reached a proposed settlement that would repay truckers 100 per cent of what is owed, plus six percent interest. It awaits final approval from a federal judge in November.
Remember though, these lawsuits are civil class action lawsuits. Theses are allegations. Federal prosecutors will have to have sufficient evidence to charge Haslam with any crime and so far, that has not happened.
Dawg---can't predict it all, but we've got 7 employees pleading guilty so far...and 35 employees others were mentioned in FBI documents.
Perry, I think a lot of folks share your frustration. I'm here to give you some hope. Jim Kadlacek, our sports expert, said Haslam has worked to turned the Browns into a first-class organization... and with or without him, there are people in place to turn the Browns
into a winning team.
There could be more plea bargains in upcoming weeks...but remember, these sentencing numbers are a range of maximums...they are likely to receive much less time in prison for cooperating.
Dawg Boy, see my response to Perry!
Dawg...I am a fan...hope they win at least 8.
MW, thanks for the compliment!
Hey Perry...good observation! Oh Art!!!!
Perry, Haslam did take questions on the first day of Browns training camp... and most of them involved the FBI investigation. He said he plans to own the Browns for a long time.
Linda, here's what we know from the FBI documents. Jimmy was allegedly in the same meeting when conversations included buying that broken plane for a milllion bucks. The FBI informant has also told the FBI that Haslam would have been aware of fraud.
Chris, classier is a great way to describe it. Our sports expert said Haslam has transformed the team into a first-class organization. He's spent lots of dough
to improve the facilities and is working to improve the fan experience as well.
Perry, During his news conference at training camp, Haslam apologized for
the negative attention the investigation has brought to Cleveland and the team.
Linda, its a pretty big story in Knoxville, folks there have a great deal of respect for Haslam.
MW...again I thank you for your comment. It's an important story but we are dedicated to covering it fully and fairly.
Linda, our sports expert said Haslam has put the right people in place to create a winning team. He spoke highly of the new CEO and coach.
Just heard from spokesperson for Pilot Flying J who called our report a "straightforward treatment".
Thank you so much for watching our exclusive Investigation into Jimmy Haslam-Inside the FBI probe.
Ron and I enjoyed answering your questions and reading your comments.
