According to the CDC, domestic violence affects approximately 324,000 pregnant women each year (and that number is likely low due to how under-reported domestic violence tends to be). Pregnancy can be an especially dangerous time for women in abusive relationships, and abuse can often begin or escalate during the pregnancy.

As someone who educates the community on domestic and dating violence I often hear the question "Who experiences Domestic Violence?". That question could imply that domestic violence happens to a specific type of person. Anyone can experience domestic violence. Abuse can impact an individual of any gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, region or age. Abuse is never a victim's fault and this does not happen to a specific type of person. We provide to support to anyone affected by domestic violence, including friends and loved ones.

I just saw this was going on and joined... I am a survivor, and I just wanted to say that I will be getting active this October for DV awareness. Does anyone know of any goings on that I can get involved with? Cleveland/Cuyahoga has wonderful resources that I wasn't aware of until I finally ended up in a DV shelter. I am so grateful for that-all a victim needs to do is reach out!

It can be really hard to reach out for help, whether it is in person over the phone. Our advocates will never cast judgement and will never pressure a caller to talk about anything that they don't want to or to share anything they are uncomfortable with. We are here for you whenever you are ready to talk. 216-391-HELP. You can also submit questions through the "Get Help Now" function on our website at www.dvcac.org

Whether we are posting the DVCAC hotline number on our social media (216-391-HELP), talking to a friend or loved one about the prevalence of abuse, or visiting www.dvcac.org to learn more...every action, big or small, brings us one step closer to preventing domestic violence. Ask your friends and family to tune in this evening at 7pm.

My question is why does the media only talk about things that are really important when a celebrity or sports figure does something. I don't agree with Rice at all, but what I notice news net 5, concentrate on what Lebron James is doing or get a picture of Lebron in front of your building. When the young girls were found the hype was there regarding domestic violence getting help, then it went away...why? So my question to the management at newsnet5, Can you not put these stories to rest, in other words continue to talk about them. And by the way, woman are beating on men, and the men do not reported it from fear of being taken away by the police.
